Grading System

At Willard, students receive two grades for each class, helping to assess both academic performance and classroom engagement.

  • Standards-Based Performance (SBP): This grade measures how well your child understands and retains the subject material, based on tests, quizzes, and other teacher-designed assessments.
  • Habits of Work (HOW): This grade evaluates your child’s ability to manage the responsibilities of being a student, including punctuality, completing assignments on time, and actively participating in class.

Each grade is scored on a scale from 1 to 4, providing a clear picture of both academic progress and work habits.

Academic Support

If your child needs assistance with classwork or homework, teachers are available to offer support. Either you or your child can advocate for additional help when needed. For ongoing support beyond occasional teacher assistance, consider reaching out to a grade-level counselor to explore further resources.

Advisory

Advisory is a 25-minute class held on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, dedicated to supporting students’ personal and social development. Monthly themes cover topics such as responsible citizenship, allyship, study skills, time management, social networking and media awareness, inclusivity, and respect in relationships. Advisory also addresses topics such as social justice and LGBTQ+. Additionally, two of the weekly Advisory sessions are reserved for extra academic support via targeted tutoring and silent sustained reading.
