Madeline Trumble
“No day but today,” Maddy Trumble’s quote in the Willard 2003 yearbook, testifies to the teen’s obsession at the time with the musical Rent. She was also deemed most likely to be “a famous singer.” Perhaps not unusual dreams for a middle schooler who starred in several Metal Shop productions, but in Trumble’s case it’s proved to be prophetic. She’s gone on to Broadway, appearing in the cast of such hits as Newsies, the national tour of Wicked (where she was an understudy for the lead role of Elphaba), and most notably to date, starring as beloved nanny Mary Poppins in that musical’s second national tour in 2012-2013. She’s kept busy in numerous productions around the country, including recently playing the title character in Evita at the ZACH Theatre in Austin, Texas. Trumble also puts her considerable energy into advocacy for people with juvenile diabetes, a condition she’s lived with since the age of four. “Diabetes has always been a part of me and just something different about me. It can definitely be hard at times,” she said in an interview, “But it’s never gotten in the way of anything I’ve wanted to do. Diabetes makes us more special-because it makes us work harder. It has never held me back and I’m really proud to say that.”
